HARTLEY Wintney have had a dream start to their first ever season in the Southern League Division One East with two wins out of two.

Last season’s Combined Counties League champions certainly wasted no time in making their mark in their new league, as they scored after 56 seconds against visiting Northwood.

New signing striker Paul Hodges hit the target after good work from Dean Stow and Sam Argent.

The home side then doubled their advantage after 39 minutes, with Stow and Hodges involved as last season’s leading scorer Argent opened his account this term and this is how it finished.

On Monday night, Hartley travelled to Beaconsfield and took the lead again.

A long throw from Adam Everiss was headed on by Adam New for Argent to volley home.

The home side levelled from the penalty spot after the break and just when the game looked set to end as a draw, the Row scored the winner in the first minute of added on time.

A long throw from Callum Eagle found Argent, his overhead kick did not come off and the ball found its way to Liam Eagle to score the winner.

Hartley take a break from league action this weekend, as they travel to Wessex League side Brockenhurst in the FA Cup.

Looking ahead to the game, joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: “ With Brockenhurst scoring freely it should be a good match with both teams likely to score goals.

“We were disappointed last season to go out at the first time of asking after having a good FA Cup run in the previous year. We would welcome another good cup run.

He added: “We should have virtually a full squad to pick from and Paul Hodges has made a difference to our style of play and we look forward to seeing this develop further.”
