FORMER Reading striker Jamie Cureton scored twice, as Farnborough beat a young Basingstoke Town 6-0 in the final of the O'Neill Invitation Cup.

The Dragons with a very small squad, changed all their XI except for the goalkeeper Callum McAdden from the previous day's 6-1 win over Fleet.

So it was no surprise, Basingstoke's academy side suffered at the hands of their Hampshire rivals.

Talking after the game, Town manager Terry Brown said: "I was proud of the team and the goalkeeper played particularly well saving 10 one-on-ones.

"We agreed to this tournament when we were going to ground share with Farnborough and with our first team squad only being 11 I did not want to risk any injures, if I had a bigger squad I would have played more of a mixture.

"Unfortunately, at the moment this is not the case, we are still raising money for the first team for the coming season."

Farnborough's Cureton scored twice in the opening 45 minutes with both goals set up Perry Coles.

Basingstoke Town goalie McAdden was in virtually permanent action and pulled off several fine saves.

The nearest the visitors came to scoring was a far post header from Jordan Goater which hit the inside of the post.

The second half continued in much the same vane and only some last ditch tackles plus good goalkeeping kept the score down.

The home side scored four more times including two from defender Jack Smith.
