BASINGSTOKE Town have not played their last game at the Camrose and will continue to play there next season.

Chief Executive David Knight has been instrumental in making this happen and said: “A lot of hard work has been going on behind the scenes as the club prepares for next season and the future.

“While much work has still to be done, I am pleased to announce that the club will continue to play at The Camrose.

Knight added: “The club wishes to place on record its thanks to Farnborough for their kind offer of a groundshare for next season, and we appreciate their patience and support during the last few weeks. We look forward to meeting them next season.”

Basingstoke Town manager Terry Brown said: “This is absolutely fantastic news for the club and Dave Knight has worked tirelessly to make this happen.

“When you look at Slough you can see what a difference playing in your own ground makes.”

A supporters’ forum meeting has now been provisionally set for Tuesday, May 23 commencing at 7pm in the clubhouse. An agenda for the evening will be published nearer the time.

Basingstoke Town manager Terry Brown feels he in a much better position now then a year ago at the helm of the Dragons.

Last summer Brown and Jason Bristow had the tough job of recruiting a brand new team, but this summer he is just looking to add the missing pieces of the jigsaw to the squad as they look to push their way up the Southern League Premier Division table.

Brown said: “Jason and I last year had a really busy summer trying to build a side on a tight budget.

“Then we had to work the players into a playing system. Now we have a system that I like and I want to keep the core of the squad and just add a few more to improve it."

Only a week ago Brown won his first trophy at Basingstoke and said: “We had a squad at the Hampshire Senior Cup with an average age of under 21 and it was a great way to end the season with a trophy.

“I now think that we can build a team that can challenge for promotion.”

Having time to reflect on the season Brown said: “I have been going through my paperwork and I mark the players out of 10 after each each game and the youngsters marks after Christmas increased which was great to see.

“Captain David Ray got the man of the match 14 times in my eyes. He was a great skipper and few realise the way he moulded a young back line.”

The Town boss is still on the look out for an experienced forward and will also be hoping to add a couple of defenders and a midfielder to his talented squad.

His recruitment will certainly be helped by the news that the Dragons will continue at the Camrose.
