WINKLEBURY Wizards secured promotion to the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One beating Longdog Soldiers 3-1.

The victory gave them second spot in Division Two behind Herriard Sports the unbeaten Champions. It was a long throw in from George Lagden in the 11th minute that led to Jack Arthur at the far post giving Wizards the lead.

Longdog defended well until in the 40th minute when it became 2-0.

An indirect free-kick was awarded, a quick pass from Scott Large ended with Lagden beating Jake Barnes, who has had an exception season in the Longdog goal.

Just before the break, Wizards almost extended their lead when a chip from Alex Stephens hit the post.

Longdog started the second half on the attack and in the 57th minute they pulled a goal back when the Wizards goalkeeper Scott Williams half saved a 30 yard volley and Tyron Payne put away the rebound.

It was a panicky time for Wizards as they needed to win the game to gain promotion, but in the 80th minute the tension was eased when they were awarded a penalty.

Jack Arthur had put Dan Hargood through, he was floored and Liam Grainger sent Barnes the wrong way to seal the points.

Matt Morrison, the Longdog manager, was pleased with their first season in the league and their improvement during the season.

Harry Grainger, the Wizards boss, who took over from Graham Garrett after his untimely death, said: "It was our aim after coming out of youth football to progress and I am very proud of my young team this season. We look forward to the challenge in the top division."

A change of name from TDI Group to Twentyten Reserves this season by Graham Jenkins has been successful as they finished well clear of the danger zone and were defeated finalists in the North Hants Junior Cup.

Their latest win on Saturday was against Origin 3-1.

They took the lead after 30 minutes when a corner from Mark Smith was headed on by Jake Tanner and Franklin Spagagna headed past the Origin manager Dave Hawkins, who was again in their goal.

Origin came back strongly and levelled the scores through John Gurney.

Twentyten brought on first teamer Charlie Maiining and they soon regained their lead, Spacagna again the scorer on the hour mark.

Five minutes later, Manning put Dan Hancock through for his goal number 17 of the season.
