BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies put up a brave fight at high flyers Plymouth Argyle before going down 4-1.

The home side had the first chance as they fired over the bar, before the Ladies went close as Helen Ogle received the ball and took on the full back, to have her shot go into the side netting.

On 25 minutes, Plymouth opened the scoring.

Soon after, Town's Zoe Maylin made a goal line clearance, before the home side hit the post.

Ogle then had a long range effort saved by the Plymouth goalkeeper.

Nine minutes after the break, Plymouth made it 2-0 and then another goalmouth scramble saw Jenna Macbeth clear the ball off the line.

The home side then won the game with two goal in the space of five minutes.

Visiting goalkeeper Erin Davis-Donne then pulled off a brilliant save, tipping a 25-yard shot on to the crossbar and over.

Town then score in the final minute as Lindsey Beverley's 25-yard free-kick was saved, but Michelle Kimber put away the rebound.

The Ladies manager Rob Quilter said: "It was a tough game against very strong opponents.

"The girl’s defended bravely and did well to keep the score down. Their hard work was rewarded with a goal right at the end as well."
