HARTLEY Wintney are looking forward to their biggest game of the season on Tuesday night (7.30pm), when they entertain AFC Bournemouth in the semi-final of the Hampshire Senior Cup.

The Combined Counties League Premier Division side saw their home game against Windsor postponed on Saturday.

Looking ahead to their big cup tie, joint manager Daniel Brownlie says it would be “the cherry on the cake” if his Hartley side won on Tuesday.

The Premier League visitors nickname is the Cherries and Brownlie chuckled, “No pun was intended, honest!”

He has good reason to smile at the moment along with fellow boss Anthony Millerick, Hartley look certain to retain their Combined Counties League title.

And Brownlie is relishing the prospect of facing Bournemouth in front of a bumper three-figure crowd at the Memorial Playing Fields.

He said: “We have beaten bigger teams in the past like Merthyr and Havant and Waterlooville and hopefully this will be another memorable occasion.

“We have managed to keep the bulk of last season’s squad, which shows how family-friendly this club is and what a lovely place it is to play football.

He added: “It is a great opportunity for us to show what we can do. We are expecting a big crowd and the pressure is on them.

“I know they have been fielding most of their Under-21 team in this competition but these players are at a Premier League club for a reason. They will want to impress.”
