HERRIARD Sports beat Basingstoke Labour Club 3-1, one of their main rivals for the Basingstoke and District Division Two title.

It was a tough first half for the leaders, as they were troubled by the precise free-kicks taken by Wayne Barlow.

It was his free-kick in the 40th minute that gave Labour the lead.

Josh Dickens rose at the far post to head past keeper Dave Purt. Three minutes into the second half, Herriard drew level when a strong run on a counter attack by Simon Jane led to Chris Dobbie scoring with a low shot.

On the hour a flick on by Dobbie led to Sam Cato making it 2-1 and although Labour pressed strongly when sub Chris Waite came on, efforts by Aaron John and Matt Kelly came to nothing and with five minutes remaining Dobbie headed home another Jane cross.

Basingstoke United could not raise a team to play Basingstoke Royals; therefore the three points will be awarded to Royals which puts them back to the top of Division One.

At the other end of the table, AFC Aldermaston Reserves won their second league game of the season at the expense of bottom club Basingstoke Athletic 2-0 win. Ricky Waknell and Rio Francis with a 25 yard lob scored their goals.
