BASINGSTOKE Town continued their recent great cup form with another victory this time at Dorchester in the FA Trophy.

The Dragons proved too good for their Southern League Premier Division rivals as they ended up comfortable 3-0 winners.

This was despite the home side starting the better and in the ninth minute they felt they should have had a penalty when Nathan Walker was tripped in the box.

The Magpies continued to dominate and Ollie Bassett’s cross saw Walker’s shot well saved by Alex Tokarczyk.

On 25 minutes the Dragons were forced to reshuffle their midfield after Charlie Kennedy was injured and was replaced by Nana Owusu.

Dorchester continued to have the upper hand and came even closer to getting the opening goal, as a lovely shot from Lewis Morgan came back off the post.

As the first 45 minutes came to a close, the visitors started to get themselves into the game.

With 42 minutes on the clock, midfielder Richie Whittingham won a free-kick in the edge of the area.

It was left to sub Owusu to do the rest, with an excellent strike which flew into the top corner of the Magpies’ goal.

Basingstoke boss Terry Brown made another change at half-time with lively forward Aaron Jarvis coming on in place of Whittingham.

This proved to be an excellent move as on 54 minutes the visitors doubled their lead with a penalty Aaron Redford’s pace saw him felled in the area and the striker dusted himself down and sent Dorchester goalkeeper Shane Murphy the wrong way from the spot.

Dorchester tried to get themselves back into the contest and just after the hour mark sub David Jerrand’s shot beat goalkeeper Tokarczyk, but was cleared by visiting captain David Ray.

As the hosts pushed forward, the Dragons had their chances to extend their lead, the best coming from Redford.

The home side then went close as a great ball from Mario Mateus found Walker, but he was unable to convert.

The Dragons then completed their three goal haul thanks to a nice strike from Sam Deadfield in stoppage time.

The 3-0 victory puts them into the third qualifying round and they will have to wait until tomorrow’s lunchtime draw to find out who they will play on Saturday November 26.

Next weekend, the Dragons are back in league action, when they are at home to Stratford.
