OVERTON United opened their home Hampshire Premier League campaign with an a superb 3-1victory over visiting Stockbridge.

The home side welcomed the return of Dave Parry into their line-up signed on dual forms with Bagshot Lea and this gave Overton a big boost ahead of this North Hants derby game.

For the first 30 minutes it was an even affair, but then Jamie Smith released Parry and he used his pace to slot home the opening goal.

The home side still led at the break, but the visitors never gave-up and on the hour mark they levelled.

However, Overton dug in and 10 minutes later, Parry released Siyani Thomas and he scored from 18 yards out.

Stockbridge then had a couple of excellent chances, as Carl Clayton was called into action to make some good saves.

With the visitors pushing forward, Overton made the most of it, as Parry scored his second of the game as they caught them on the break.

The victory broke Overton’s duck for the season and a delighted manager Greg Restell said: “We had an awful August so it was great to return home and get a win in our first game.

“The pitch was wonderful and I cannot fault the boys it was a great win. Now I hope we are up an running and can kick on from here.”

This weekend, Overton are back on their travels to South Wonston Swifts in the Hampshire Premier League Cup.
