COMBINED Counties League Premier Division champions Hartley Wintney are back in top spot after two games.

This was thanks to an excellent 3-1 home victory over newly promoted CB Hounslow.

Shane Hollamby scored the opening goal of the game following consistent pressure from the Row.

He received the box near the penalty spot and with some neat footwork and superb balance turned and popped off a shot in one motion, which beat the goalkeeper at this far post.

Midway through the second-half, the visitors levelled things against the run of play from a very quick counter attack.

Hartley took the lead again when a deep cross from Dean Stow was sent into a congestion space but a brave header by Liam Eagle, who jumped way and above anyone else including the on rushing keeper, sent the ball into the net.

The home side's third came from the skipper Sam Argent.

A lovely passing move that involved a couple of great interchanges inside the box, where Argent found a yard to tuck it beyond the goalkeeper for a lovely goal.

Talking after the game joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: "On paper it was a good win but as a unit we have plenty more to offer, the boys realise that.

"We are creating a winning habit which becomes increasingly important as the season goes on, but ultimately even more so when you may not be playing your best football.

He added: "We have a changing room packed full of determination, a true winning mentality, it's become interwoven into the fabric of this club.

"Now, we need to harness that and streamline our efforts into making more complete performances and continue our want to improve."

Next up for Hartley is a trip to Colliers Wood on Wednesday night for another league game and Brownlie said: "Wednesday evening will be a difficult game, it always is. They are well organised, quick in all the right areas and play some very good football.

"Our focus, however, stays with us - we want to enforce our game and ask them questions in every area of the park."
