BASINGSTOKE Strikers Disabled Adults Football are hosting their first ever football tournament at the War Memorial Park on Sunday (10am to 4pm).

It is being billed as a fun day for all the family, with plenty going on for all ages. There will be side stalls, a fire engine as well as refreshments and food available.

The tournament will see the debut of Strikers’ new kit which has be bought from a £1,000 sponsorship deal with P B Edwards Plastering and Dry Lining Ltd, who are based at Champion House in Roentgen Road.

The trophy on the day has been named after the company and standing in the way of the Basingstoke Strikers’ winning it, will be teams from Bournemouth, Southampton, Portsmouth, Woking and Feltham.

There will be three seven-a-side pitches in operation on the day, so there will be games going on all the time.

As well as side stalls the club are running a raffle with tickets priced at £1, and they have some great prizes included iPad mini, a season ticket for Basingstoke Town, family passes for the cinema, bowling and the aquadrome and Finkley Down Farm.

Strikers’ head coach Eddie Matthews said: “The boys are really excited and looking forward to hosting their own tournament.

“They are training hard and hoping lots of people come down to enjoy the fun. We want it to be a real family day not just about the football.”

They are trying to get a diesel generator for the day and anyone who can help is asked to contact head coach Matthews on his mobile phone on 07899 043375 or by email on eddiematthews2909@icloud.com
