BASINGSTOKE Town’s new era continues on Saturday with their first home game of their pre-season, as they face a visit from Salisbury to the Ark Cancer Charity Stadium.

The Dragons brand new squad will take to the field at 3pm hopefully backed by a big crowd, as they take on one of the favourites to win the Southern League Division One South and West, who are managed by TV pundit Steve Claridge.

Town boss Terry Brown knows the importance of the game and said: “This will be the first time most of the supporters have seen our new team in action and I know it is going to be a tough game as I think Salisbury will be in the conference in a few years time.”

Only captain David Ray remains from last season’s Town squad and Brown is using the game to continue to cast his eye over possible signings with 10 places still up for grabs.

He has added two more players this week, with the signing of Charlie Kennedy and Marcus Johnson-Schuster.

Kennedy was at Barnet and was loaned out to Hayes and Yeading last season and is a midfielder, who can also play as a centre back.

Johnson-Schuster has played at Town before in season 2013/14 and last term was at Southern League Division One side Swindon Supermarine.

Talking about his latest additions Brown said: “Charlie can play anywhere in midfield and even in defence, Marcus is a right back with a great engine and we will certainly be using him as a wing back.”

Before naming his side to face Salisbury Brown will access the injuries of Mark Hastings, Joe Gator, Matt Partridge, David Ray, Sam Deadfield and Richie Whittingham. Partridge looks to be the biggest doubt, after suffering a suspected broken nose in Tuesday night’s game at Winchester City which ended 1-1.

George Hallahan opened the scoring with a 25-yard free-kick after the break for the Dragons.

Former Whitchurch United striker Rudy Plummer then equalised late on for the visitors.

There will be a minutes silence before the game on Saturday for popular former Supporters Club chairman John Turner who sadly died last week.
