HATCH Warren's Geoff Hawley had a superb day at Wembley for Radio WDON, as he watched his beloved AFC Wimbledon beat Plymouth in the League Two Play-off final.

Having grown up close to Wimbledon's original ground Plough Lane before moving to Basingstoke it was Hawley's biggest day so far on the mike.

Hawley takes up the story and said: "Seeing our crest on the side of the stadium brought home the enormity of our achievement.

"The noise at kick-off was incredible, both sets of fans were deafening together and seeing three tiers of Plymouth fans was some sight.

The lifelong Dons fan added: "I had a very nervous start to our broadcast but settled into it and began to enjoy the day as the match went by, much like our team on the pitch.

"What we'd achieved hadn't sunk it but the scenes in the banks of seats were unbridled joy at one end whilst the other end just dissolved like sea mist."

"Getting home at 2.30am after being awake at 5am that morning made for a long, but strangely enjoyable day, at one of the most famous stadia in the world."
