WHITCHURCH United boss Carl Bennett is hoping his side can finish their Wessex League Premier Division campaign with a victory, when they entertain high flyers Blackfield and Langley.

The Jam Boys players still have something to play for, as places are up for grabs for the final of the North Hants Senior Cup final on May 5 at the Camrose against Tadley Calleva.

Whitchurch manager Bennett said: “On our day I feel we are as good as any side in this division. We had a poor start to the season, but now we are set to finish in comfortable mid table position and still have some silverware to play for.”

Whitchurch are 14th in the table after they drew 1-1 away at Fareham, with a the side down to the bare 11 due to injuries, while Arron Jarvis was recalled by Basingstoke Town and made his debut for the Dragons.

The home side were first to strike as Fareham captain Luke Heard scored, but the Jam Boys levelled from Dave Parry.

After this Whitchurch had enough chances to win the game.

Parry forced a good save and Rudy Plummer who played as the lone striker carved out a couple of great chances one going wide and one being saved.

Whitchurch’s goalkeeper Brad Snelling was called into action late on to make a great save to ensure the draw.

After the game, Bennett said: “I was pleased with the performance and we could have won the game as we had enough chances.”
