BASINGSTOKE Town manager Michael Gilkes is keen for his chargers to return to winning ways, after the recent disappointment of defeats at Havant and at home to Ebbsfleet.

In both games the Dragons looked set to pick up a point, only to have it snatched away from them, in the final few minutes of both contests.

Before this Town had won three on the trot and next up for them is a trip to Hartsdown Park to face Margate.

The Kent side drew 0-0 with Town at the Camrose in late August, but since then a new manager and new faces have seen them climb up the table. They are now just outside the play-off places in eighth.

They are unbeaten in their last five games winning four of them including a victory over league leaders Ebbsfleet.

With Town's game last Saturday against Weston-super-Mare postponed, Gilkes took the opportunity to watch them beat Hayes and Yeading 2-1.

Gilkes said: “It was good to see them first hand and their style of play has changed since we played them earlier in the season.

"Everyone in the camp is very positive at the moment and we will go into the game looking to get three points. It a matter of focusing on one game at a time."

The Town boss is still looking to add new players to his squad and will still be without injured trio Jamie Brown, David Ray and Harrison Gilkes for the trip to Kent. Ray and Gilkes will hopefully start training again next week.

Striker Rowan Vine has been released by the club and Gilkes said: We wish him well and thank him for representing this football club.”

After Saturday’s game Town are in action at the Camrose on Tuesday (7.45pm) against Sutton United, who are currently third in the table.
