BASINGSTOKE Town club captain David Ray is not about to hit the panic button and feels the Dragons will roar again this season and get themselves out of the relegation zone.

They have after just one league win to their name so far in this campaign and it gets no easier for the Town on Saturday, when high flying Maidstone United are the visitors on Saturday (3pm).

The Kent side are unbeaten in their last 10 National League South outings, with their latest victory being a 1-0 success at home to Wealdstone, which moved them up to third.

They also have the meanest defence in the league having only conceded eight goals in 16 games, but they have also only scored 16 times which is only one more than Town. So it has all the making a low scoring game on Saturday.

However, Town maybe going into the game on the back of four straight away defeats, but their last two games at the Camrose, saw them beat Torquay 3-0 and Maidstone’s fellow high flyers Whitehawk 3-1 - Town’s only league win of the campaign.

Ray said: “We always enjoy playing at home as the support is so good and of course we have just had three tough long road trips.

“We are determined as a unit to stick together and turn things around I don’t think we need to be hitting the panic button.

“If we can get a few wins we will then have the momentum to take things forward and results will then start to go our way.”

“It is a matter of taking one game at a time and this starts with Maidstone.”

Saturday's game will also see the home debut of new loan signing from Woking Guiseppe Sole.

He did not have dream return as Town lost in his first game back 5-0 at Concord Rangers on Saturday.

Talking about the loss in Essex captain Ray felt it was certainly a game of two halves and said: “At half time it was 0-0. We were in the game and looking forward to the second half.

"We conceded a penalty and before we had a chance to regroup we let in another and never recovered.

“However, there is no excuse to letting in five goals in one half - this is just not good enough."

On Tuesday night, Basingstoke made their longest journey of the season so fat to Truro City and lost 2-0, which moved the Cornish side up to fifth in the table.

On an evening of high winds and driving rain, Ray admitted it was not the perfect conditions to play football and said: “The pitch was soft and the goal kicks just hang in the air and were so unpredictable, but it was the same for both sides. We conceded early and then as we chased the game they managed to score another.”
