SHERBORNE St John's excellent start to the season continued as they beat visiting Isle of Wight side Niton 7-0 to reach the second round of the Hampshire A Cup on Saturday.

James Lovell hit a hat-trick in the opening 25 minutes, while Matt Livingstone headed home Sam Hilton's cross and Ronnie Tamale's volleyed in to make it 5-0 at the break.

Lovell got his fourth early in the second half, before Ibrahim Waheed completed the scoring from the penalty spot.

Basingstoke Labour Club also progressed, beating Southampton side Shield, who began the game with 10 men, 3-0.

Mark Thorpe opened the scoring after 20 minutes and Matt Lowe doubled the lead before half-time, scoring from the penalty spot after Josh Bundock had been fouled. Thorpe completed the scoring direct from a free-kick on 65 minutes.

Basingstoke Athletic were handed a walkover after opponents Fusion Sports withdrew from the competition.

Six Basingstoke and District Saturday League clubs made it through to the second round of the Hampshire B Cup, but Hook Reserves' may need to win their tie again after the referee played extra-time rather than going straight to penalties after 90 minutes.

Hook conceded early on but Andy Parker levelled from a free-kick. A penalty had Portsmouth outfit Coal Exchange back in front, but Parker's second made it 2-2 with 18 minutes left.

Hook dominated the controversial extra period, with Pete Silvester putting them ahead and Parker adding three more to take his tally to five and make the final score 6-2.

Winklebury Wizards travelled to the Isle of Wight and beat Wroxhall 3-1.

Alex Stevens had Winklebury ahead from the penalty spot and while the hosts levelled after the break, Connor Stratton almost immediately restored the advantage. Scotty Winterbourne put the result beyond doubt with 65 minutes on the clock.

Herriard Sports beat Bournemouth outfit Bransgrove United 3-2.

Sam Cato put Herriard ahead from Matt Goodman's pass, with Chris Dobbie doubling the lead from the penalty spot early in the second half.

Bransgrove pulled one back with 15 minutes left and while Cato's penalty made it 3-1, the visitors scored again to set up a nervous finale.

Tron were too good for Basingstoke Athletic Reserves, winning 6-1.

John Irvin converted Joe Harris' cross to put Tron ahead early on, with Lorne Howard doubling the lead before half-time. Jamie Ballantyne and Ben Nicholls made it 4-0 early in the second half and while Michael Borbery pulled one back for Athletic, further goals from Ben Nicholls and Sam Nicholls rounded off a good day for Tron.

Overton United B needed a penalty shoot-out to beat visiting AFC Wootton from the Isle of Wight.

Overton took the lead through Adam Bowden early on, but the islanders levelled on the hour and the game ended 1-1, with the hosts winning 5-4 on penalties.

Yakheuba Kaba hit a hat-trick as AFC Berg beat Reading League side Baughurst AFC Reserves.

Two first half goals from Kaba had Berg in control at the break, while he added his third on the hour.

Alan Alanane scored twice before Baughurst replied from the penalty spot, but Berg had the last word, substitute Spencer Kirby scoring a late sixth.
