BASINGSTOKE Town manager Jason Bristow is hoping that Saturday's trip to high-flying Bath City will be a turning point for his side.

The Dragons have won their last two games, beating lower league Farnborough and Slough Town to progress in the Hampshire Senior Cup and FA Cup.

However, they are yet to taste victory in the National League South, taking just five points from their opening 11 games, with only goal-difference keeping them above bottom side Weston-super-Mare.

Saturday's opponents, Bath, made a fantastic start to the season, winning their opening six games, a run that included a 2-1 win at The Camrose in the opening week of the season.

They sit fourth in the table, but have fallen away of late, failing to win any of their last five league games.

Bristow said: "I am hoping that Saturday can be a turning point for us. We have had two good results that could spur us on to turn our fortunes around.

"We are three games unbeaten now and need to take the positives from that. The teams we have beaten have been from a lower league, but we had to put in performances good enough to win the games, and we scored seven goals in the process.

"Hopefully scoring goals like that can get the confidence going as we get back to the league.

"Bath had a great start and while they have dropped away a bit, they are still at the right end of the table and will be confident that they can get three points.

"We have to make sure that we go to Bath, perform and take the game to them. We have not gone into any games trying to get a draw. We will go there and try to win."

Town will be without midfielders Simon Dunn (hamstring) and Jamie Brown (hip) still out, but Harrison Gilkes is expected to recover from a slight knock in order to play.

Monday's draw for the third qualifying round of the FA Cup saw Basingstoke handed a home tie against fellow National League South side Chelmsford City, who overcame league leaders Ebbsfleet United in the previous round.

Bristow said: "You always want to avoid teams from the same league, but I'm not sure Chelmsford will have been relishing the tie when it came out either.

"It's going to be tough. Chelmsford are in good form, have beaten a strong Ebbsfleet team to get here and are scoring goals, but the good news is that it is a home tie."
