Jordy Clasie makes a quick return to Holland today and hopes he won’t be waiting too much longer for his Saints bow.

The 24-year-old is Saints’ newest recruit having sealed a move to St Mary’s this week.

The former Feyenoord man and Dutch international has only just landed in Southampton but is having a quick turnaround to head back to his homeland with his new teammates.

Saints were today jetting out to Holland for the second and final leg of their overseas pre-season trips.

They take on FC Groningen tomorrow, KVV Quick on Tuesday and Feyenoord next Thursday.

The latter game will be a huge occasion with Clasie, Graziano Pelle and manager Ronald Koeman all returning to their former club. A crowd in excess of 40,000 is expected for the game.

Clasie is hoping he might be handed the chance to quickly get to grips with his new side by figuring tomorrow.

The trip to Holland, and in particular Rotterdam to face Feyenoord at the very end of the tour, will also give him another chance to pack up and leave ahead of the new season with Saints.

Clasie is known as a down to earth family man and has one child, named Jace, with his partner Esmee, and another on the way, which he is keen is born in England.

That means he wants to relocate and get settled in Southampton as quickly as possible – on and off the pitch.

Clasie’s introduction should also give Saints some extra impetus as they step up their pre-season preparations.

They have so far found themselves on the losing side in their three matches – the 90 minute opener with RB Leipzig and the two 45 minute games against Valencia and Red Bull Salzburg in the Audi Quattro Cup, all played in Austria.

None of the results are a particular concern to Koeman at this stage of proceedings, but he will want to see an upturn in performances as Saints plough on.

The international players have now been back long enough to begin to extend their involvement in matches and Koeman will be keen to build towards a strong side and display at Feyenoord, which is the prestige friendly of the summer.

That will be the last match before Saints play a competitive fixture, the first leg of their third qualifying round Europa League tie.

They then take on Espanyol at St Mary’s before the second leg a week later.

The Premier League season gets underway on August 9 with a game at Newcastle.
