THE Basingstoke and District Saturday Football League has been reduced to just two divisions as only 19 teams applied to take part next season.

Premier Division champions Basingstoke Royals have withdrawn, while Bramley United have switched to the Sunday League.

Rising Sun DC were not accepted and Welly Old Boys, now renamed GTI Group, were relegated. With just three clubs remaining in the Premier Division, the decision has been taken to suspend it.

Next season there will be nine teams in Division One and 10 in Division Two.

The formation is as follows: Division One: Basingstoke Athletic, Basingstoke Labour Club, DJS Telecoms, Hampshire Irons, Hook, Overton United A, Sherborne St John, Tadley Calleva A, Twentyten.

Division Two: AFC Aldermaston A, AFC Berg, Basingstoke United, Bounty United, GTI Group, Herriard Sports, Hook Res, Overton United B, Tron FC, Winklebury Wizards.

Last season’s Saturday Sportsmanship award was won by Welly Old Boys and the Top Linesman’s award went to Basingstoke Labour Club.

Chineham FC won both the Sportsmanship and Linesman’s Awards in the Sunday League.

Welly Old Boys secretary Graham Jenkins received a special award, while Christian Cordery, the long-serving Basingstoke Labour Club FC secretary, has been recognised for his 25 years service to the game, as has Jim Head for his services to Basingstoke Town Colts and North Warnborough.

Martin Cole received the North Hants FA 21 years Services to Football award and the Gerald Merritt award for step seven referees went to Gary Long.
