SAINTS defender Nathaniel Clyne looks set to complete a move to Liverpool, with a fee believed to have been agreed between the clubs.

The Reds tabled an improved offer, said to be worth £12.5m, for the right-back this week.

Saints are now believed to have accepted that, after becoming resigned to the fact that Clyne, who has just one year left on his contract at St Mary’s, would not sign a new deal with them.

The club had offered the England international a bumper new package to stay, but he had stalled on committing himself while waiting to see what other options might be presented to him.

Manchester United had been interested, but in the end it was Liverpool who made a real play for him.

Their initial bid worth up to £10m was rejected earlier this summer, but they returned with an improved offer said to be £10.5m, rising by a possible further £2m.

Clyne is reportedly set to sign a five-year contract at Anfield and is due to undergo a medical when he returns from a trip to America. It is, therefore, likely to be a few days yet before a deal is confirmed.

Saints have already moved to strengthen their own options at right-back this summer, having signed Portugal international Cedric Soares in a £3.5m deal from Sporting Lisbon.

Since arriving from Crystal Palace in July 2012, Clyne has made 104 appearances for Saints.
