JOE Osborne scored the only goal of the game 11 minutes from time as TwentyTen edged past Hampshire Irons in the final of the North Hants May Cup at Longmeadow.
Both teams went into the game having impressed in Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division Two, TwentyTen finishing second and Irons third, so a tight encounter was to be expected.
Chris Dobbie and Chris Arnold both went close for Irons in the early stages, but TwentyTen very nearly grabbed the lead on 26 minutes, Osborne seeing his flick cleared off the line by Robert Mead.
Dobbie was inches away from putting Irons ahead soon after, his header smacking against the post, but TwentyTen had the final chance of the first half, Adam Elesgood forcing a sprawling save from Jack Rickard.
There were fewer chances in the second half and TwentyTen got what proved to be the winner on 79 minutes, Osborne netting the rebound after Rickard had saved from Jake Tanner.
Rickard kept his side in the game soon after, making a good save to prevent Osborne making it 2-0, and Irons had a gilt-edged chance to force extra-time in the final minute. Steve Tickner met Tom Chant’s cross but was only able to shoot straight at TwentyTen goalkeeper Jack Nicholson.
