HUNDREDS of Scots artists are to benefit from new studios and facilities after a landmark £3million deal between a Glasgow charity and the Scottish Arts Council.
Wasps Artists' Studios which provides cheap studios for artists at more than a dozen Scottish sites, has agreed the deal the SAC's lottery fund.
It has pledged £3m to enable the charity to become self- supporting and open five arts buildings within five years.
A total of £2.5m has been earmarked for new sites, and £520,000 to restructure the group and add new staff.
Based in the former Wills cigarette factory in Dennistoun, Wasps will raise a further £2.5m from other public and private sector financial sources to buy and develop new buildings.
More than 140 studio spaces will be created by the group which has a waiting list of more than 400 artists.
Wasps' chief executive David Cook said: "In our 30th anniversary year, we couldn't have wished for a better present."
