I THINK Celtic have done the right thing in their dealings with Shaun Maloney over the past few months.

They have made the player an offer they believe to be a good one, but given the strength of the current squad, are not going to be held to ransom.

Shaun has been linked with moves to other clubs and it seems his agent is trying to crank up the pressure. But if the window closes and he has not agreed a deal with anyone, the pendulum swings in Celtic's favour.

I heard Gordon Strachan say last week he was confident the player, who has spoken to him, would sign a new deal to keep him at Parkhead.

Maloney is doing nothing wrong - he is well within his rights in looking to see what else is out there, but the fact is Celtic are in a stromg position and can afford to stand back and take stock.

With Aiden McGeady and Derek Riordan fighting it out for a starting berth on the left side of midfield, it's not as if Strachan doesn't have other options for that area of the park.
