DOCTORS at a Glasgow hospital are in the running for a top national award after developing a revolutionary machine to spot eye problems.
David Keating and Stuart Parks from Gartnavel General are leading the field in the Scottish Health Innovations Limited awards taking place next week.
Most conventional eye checks let an ophthalmologist see what parts of the eye look like, helping to spot significant damage caused by injury or the growth of too many blood vessels.
But the doctors at Gartnavel have combined this with an electronic device that tells them how well sensitive cells at the back of the eye work when light is shone on them.
And the combined technique could help spot eye damage before it is visible.
The shortlists include 12 groups and individuals across four categories.
