CELTIC striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink couldn't care less who he partners up front - so long as the goals keep coming.

The striker hit a hat-trick against St Mirren on Saturday to take his tally to 10 in 15 outings, but so far he hasn't enjoyed a settled partnership.

Gordon Strachan has options at his disposal with Kenny Miller, Maciej Zurawski and Craig Beattie now fit and available and it remains to be seen if any of them can forge a successful pairing with the Dutchman.

Jiri Jarosik has also been played up front at times this season but Vennegoor of Hesselink isn't perturbed at the chopping and changing.

"I think you adapt to every striker you play with," he said. "Every player has their own specific qualities and I think it's unfair to compare different strikers.

"The main thing for me is to work for the team and it doesn't matter who you play with and it doesn't matter which striker is scoring so long as the points are being won and there are goals.

"When I play with Kenny he is busy all around the pitch and good for the team. Maciej has a fine touch in the box. If I play with Jiri up front he is very strong in the air, and Beattie he is different from that again. Every striker has to be on their toes here. If you get injured or suspended or don't play well then you know you can end up on the bench so you really have to be at your best every week if you want to be included in the starting eleven.

"It's important that you are giving 100% every week here and that's the most important thing because you never want to be accused of not doing enough."

The striker believes he is now back to his best after been troubled by injury since his arrival at Parkhead.

His campaign has been interrupted by troublesome problems that have kept him out of the team, but he is joint top scorer at the club along with Maciej Zurawski.

With the AC Milan game on the horizon, Gordon Strachan will be pleased to hear that Vennegoor of Hesselink is hitting peak form.

"I think I am back to full fitness now," Jan said. "At the beginning of January I was back and before that I had a week and a half of training. I have played some games now and once I get six, seven or eight games in a row then I'll feel really good.

"I have been pleased with my form recently and I've had a good feeling. But the team have also played well and the most important thing is that we have been winning."

Meanwhile, Strachan's recent optimism that Shaun Maloney will agree a new deal with the Parkhead side appears as though it could have been premature with Fulham keen on the Scotland player.

It's believed Chris Coleman has targeted Maloney as well as Steven Naismith and Craig Gordon and the Celtic midfielder will head south for talks along with his agent John Halliwell this week.
