New mum Andrea Patrick was celebrating today after becoming the mother of Scotland's first Christmas baby this year.

The 21-year-old was given the best festive present ever with the birth of her baby boy Lennon.

He made his grand entrance into the world at 12.10am yesterday.

Lennon was not expected for another two weeks but it seems the infant wanted to make Christmas extra special for his mother and father, Gerald Daly, 26.

The proud parents rushed into the Princess Royal Hospital in Glasgow at around 8pm on Christmas Eve and Lennon was born four hours later.

And they were thrilled with the best gift they could ever have hoped for as their first bouncing baby tipped the scales at 6lb 9oz.

But Lennon was taking the festive excitement in his stride and slept all through the night, giving his mother a well-earned rest.

Dental nurse Andrea said: "We just can't believe it.

"He was supposed to be born next year, but he obviously wanted to arrive in time for Christmas.

"He is absolutely perfect and has slept all through the night.

"We can't wait to take him home and show him off to all of the family.

The couple, from Barlanark, in the north of the city, had to put their plans for a turkey dinner on hold, but will be delighted to continue the festive celebrations when baby comes home.

Gerald, a car auctions assistant, added: "He is incredible and he is such a good baby.

"This has made Christmas extra special."

Carol Ferguson, the hospital's maternity co-ordinator, said: "A Christmas baby is always such a special gift."
