ROBIN VAN PERSIE has revealed his heartache at missing out on a move to Rangers under the then manager Dick Advocaat.

The Dutch striker's projected move to Ibrox almost happened back in 2002.

"There was interest from Rangers when I was at Feyenoord," he said. "The problem was they didn't make a firm offer. However, when I heard about the interest, I sat by the phone.

"If Rangers had made Feyenoord an offer, it would have happened. I would have gone to Rangers.

"But Dick Advocaat told me at the time that he needed to move some players on and it dragged on. That is why it did not happen.

"Rangers are a massive club - like Celtic. My European debut was at Ibrox and it was a fantastic moment."
