TIGER WOODS will make his first appearance Down Under in more than a decade having agreed to play at this year's Australian Masters in Melbourne.

The world No.1 last played in Australia during the 1998 Presidents Cup, but has signed on to play the Australian Masters in November.

It is reported that Woods will be paid an appearance fee of $3m. Tournament officials said his fee would be money well spent. "Many people in Australia depend on their incomes and their jobs from golf," said an Australasian Tour official. "The fact that Tiger Woods is coming will be fantastic."

SWIMMING: Caitlin McClatchey hit form, but couldn't stop the new GB swimming star, Jo Jackson, gaining her second title in the 200m freestyle at the National Championships in Sheffield. Jackson followed her world record in the 400m freestyle with a Commonwealth and British record of 1:56.47.

McCatchey touched in 1:57.58 and should have done enough to secure a place in the 4 x 200m relay squad for the world championships in Rome this summer. In the same race, Scot Hannah Miley, who won the 200m medley, was fourth in 1:59.42.

CRICKET: Sachin Tendulkar passed new milestones in his 157-Test career, scoring a 52nd half century to become the second most-capped player in history as India reached 278 for four on the second day of the series-opening match against New Zealand in Hamilton.

Tendulkar is in between two Australians on the all-time Test list, surpassing All Border's 156 and moving closer to Stephen Waugh's record of 168. He carded an unbeaten 70 as India approached New Zealand's first innings 279 with six wickets in hand.

BOXING: The Prizefighter Series at the Kelvin Hall on Tuesday has a prize fund of £25,000. The bouts will be at lightweight, with a maximum of nine rounds being fought to find the winner.
