WHAT IS IT? Yoga is a practical philosophy aimed at uniting the body, the mind and spirit for health and fulfilment. A fit and supple body can be developed through postures (asanas).

BEST FOR: Those wanting to change their shape. A regular practice will calm your mind and increase concentration, but can be demanding - you will get out of breath.

BRITISH MILITARY FITNESS CLASSES

WHAT IS IT? Circuit style work outs combining traditional exercises with army-style discipline in the park led by ex-army and navy instructors.

BEST FOR: Anyone whose exercise regime needs a kick in the behind.

COST: Your first session is a free trial, after that, a month's unlimited classes cost £26.

JAZZ DANCE

WHAT IS IT? Jazz Dance classes are an eclectic mix of diverse moods and movements all set to funky tunes. Think Chicago and pop videos.

BEST FOR: Anyone who wants to exercise to music and have fun. Jazz is great for promoting grace, but unlike complicated aerobic classes, the moves are broken down into manageable chunks and classes build towards complete routines.
