I'M disappointed Rangers didn't show more interest in landing new Celtic signing Steven Pressley after he left Hearts.

At 33, Pressley's best days are behind him. Nevertheless, he would have been a good acquisition for the Gers in the short term.

Certainly, he is better than anyone the Ibrox club has at the back at the moment. He would have shored up their leaky defence.

Signing Elvis would at least have given Paul Le Guen the time needed before the start of next season to land a good young centre-half.

I don't think Steven will be a regular for Celtic when everyone at Parkhead is fit. Gary Caldwell, Stephen McManus and even Bobo Balde will play ahead of him.

But it is a good move for him and good for Scottish football that he is staying in this country.

Rangers have now been linked with Pressley's former Hearts and Scotland team-mate Andy Webster - that would be a great bit of business.

He is not playing regularly at Wigan and it would probably be a straightforward move to push through in the transfer window.

He's exactly the sort of player Le Guen needs right now - a dominant defender who attacks the ball in the air.

Rangers need to bring in Scots and the other guys I'd like to see join are Robbie Neilsen and Stevie Naismith.
