CELTIC and Rangers clash at Hampden on Sunday in the Co-operative Insurance Cup Final with the first silverware of the season up for grabs.

It's the first time the Old Firm rivals have met in a cup final since the Ibrox side overcame the Bhoys 2-1 in the same competition back in 2003.

REG WILSON (Coatbridge) says: Could you confirm that the last time the group system of four teams was used was the 1983-84 season when the final was contested by this year's two finalists, Rangers and Celtic, and could you provide details of that final? You are quite correct on both counts. The group system was last used in the competition in season 1983-84 and it was indeed a Rangers v Celtic final on March 25, 1984, with an attendance of 66,369.

The teams that day at Hampden Park were:

Rangers: McCloy, Nicholl, Dawson, McClelland, Paterson, McPherson, Russell, McCoist, Clark (McAdam), MacDonald (H. Burns) and Cooper.

Celtic: Bonner, McGrain, Reid, Aitken, McAdam, MacLeod, Provan (Sinclair), McStay, McGarvey (Melrose), T. Burns and McClair.

At full-time it was 2-2, but Rangers won 3-2 after extra time. Ally McCoist hit a hat-trick for Rangers, while Brian McClair and Mark Reid were the scorers for Celtic.

DAVE TURNER (Falkirk) - When Malcolm MacDonald became the Scotland manager in the mid- 1960's, what were the circumstances surrounding this appointment and what was his record as the national team boss? John Prentice was sacked as Scotland manager towards the end of 1966 and Kilmarnock manager Malcolm MacDonald agreed to help the SFA by becoming interim manager of the national team until a full-time replacement could be found. In his brief spell in charge, Scotland drew 1-1 with Wales on October 22, 1966, and beat Northern Ireland 2-1 on November 16, 1966. Former Scotland goalkeeper Bobby Brown, who was then manager of St Johnstone, was appointed full-time team manager at a meeting of the SFA on February 6, 1967 and, in his first game in charge, Scotland beat world champions England 3-2 at Wembley.

JAMES (Glasgow) - Pat Gibb played for Queen's Park then Partick Thistle. He was a hard-tackling player I was told. How long was he with both clubs and how many first-team games did he play? Did he win any trophies or score goals? We can find no record of a Pat Gibb playing for Queen's Park or Partick Thistle. Which period of time were you thinking of?

DAVE HUNTLY (Stirling) - I read somewhere that Bob Wilson was the first non-Scottish born player to win a Scotland cap, following a change in the rules regarding eligibility in 1971, but where was Bob actually born? Bob made the first of his two Scotland appearances on October 13, 1971. Scotland defeated Portugal 2-1 in a European Championship qualifier. He was one of two English-born players in the team, the other being Hibernian's Alex Cropley. Bob was born in Chesterfield, Derbyshire and Alex in Aldershot, Hampshire.

BILLY AULD (Motherwell) - When Rangers played Newcastle in the semi-finals of the old Fairs Cities' Cup in 1969, I seem to recall that they missed a penalty. Could you tell me who the culprit was? The spot-kick was missed in the first leg at Ibrox. Andy Penman was the unfortunate player. This game ended goal-less. Newcastle progressed to the final after winning the second leg at St James' Park 2-0.

JOE McCLUSKEY(Greenock) -Which Junior club did the legendary Allan McGraw play for before joining Morton? Allan had a spell at Renfrew Juniors before signing on at Cappielow.
