ARTUR BORUC'S return to form with back-to-back clean sheets has been hailed in his homeland, with Poland national coach Leo Beenhakker leading the praise.

The Celtic keeper now hopes to regain his international No.1 spot, initially lost after he was banned for two games for breaking a curfew and then when his form took a dip.

Beenhakker refuses to say at this stage who will be in goal when Poland face Northern Ireland in their World Cup qualifier in March.

But he made it clear Boruc's performance at Ibrox on Saturday has put him right back in contention.

Now, in Saturday's head-to-head against Dundee United's Lukasz Zaluska - who, along with Arsenal's Lukasz Fabianski is pushing Boruc hard for the national spot - Beenhakker will be very keen to see who comes out on top.

He said: "Artur appears to be regaining form and, of course, I am very pleased with that. But I won't base my selection on one good performance.

"If Artur can show me that when we come closer to the game against Northern Ireland, then we will see what happens.

"But there's no doubt Artur is a world-class keeper and that doesn't just disappear."

Another Celtic player attracting praise today is striker Scott McDonald.

The Aussie's boss at his former club Motherwell, Maurice Malpas, recalled how upset the hitman was when the Fir Park outfit knocked back Rangers' offer for him two years ago next month.

But it all turned out for the best when Celtic came in for him at the end of that season and Malpas said: "I didn't imagine him becoming No.1 striker for Gordon Strachan. But that's precisely what he is now and I'm pleased for Scott."
