QUEEN'S PARK boss Gardner Speirs has tagged his side's 3-0 defeat of Stirling Albion at Forthbank as the Spiders' best of the season.

A first-half James Brough header and second period strikes from Ryan Holms and Adam Coakley were enough to claim QP's first win in the Irn-Bru Second Division in 10 games.

A delighted Speirs said: "We dealt with everything Stirling could throw at us and scored three well-taken goals while keeping a clean sheet, so this was a massive three points for us.

"The fixture list has not been kind to us with games against Raith, then Stirling followed by Ayr and Peterhead, so we needed something from Forthbank and three points was just what the doctor ordered.

"Ryan Holms' goal was a quite superb solo effort and this has given us a confidence boost at exactly the right time. Now we can go to Ayr on Saturday and try and build on both this result and the performance."

In the Irn-Bru Third Division, Albion Rovers boss Paul Martin was left ecstatic after his side defeated Montrose 2-1 at Links Park to move within seven points of the promotion play-off positions.

Goals from Marco Andreoni and Bobby Barr saw Rovers come from behind for a vital three points.

And Martin said: "It is never easy to take anything from Links Park so to come from behind and get a win was a great result and no more than we deserved. This is our fourth win on the road and we have proved that when we get it right we can match any team in this league. But this win is a confidence boost at a particularly tough time of the season."

Elsewhere, Dumbarton crashed 2-1 at SFL new boys Annan, but remain in third place.

Sons manager Jim Chapman raged: "There was a lack of leadership evident and that is something we must address over the next few weeks. The boys need to take more responsibility as it is not enough just to work hard."
