PARTICK THISTLE striker Mark Roberts has vowed to prove boss Ian McCall wrong after being told he can leave the club.

The former two-time top scorer has been made available for transfer.

But at 33, Roberts is desperate to stay full-time and has confidence in his ability to prove he is still a strike force to be reckoned with at First Division level.

There is also interest in him from Ayr United, Brechin and Alloa in the Second Division and ambitious Third Division Dumbarton.

Roberts said: "I have had a great time at Partick Thistle, but all good things come to an end. I think the gaffer has made a mistake but that is just my opinion.

"I was never fast in the first place and you never lose your touch or your technique, but if I have to go somewhere else to prove him wrong then so be it.

"I know myself I still have the hunger and the desire to do it so wherever I go I am confident I will make an impact."

Marko added: "I don't want to drop down and play in the Second Division, but it might be a case of beggars can't be choosers.

"I believe there is still a few years in me yet and I don't want to go part-time.

"I know there have been a few enquiries and I am keen to get things sorted out as I just want to be playing regular football again."

When it comes to recalling his best moment in a Jags shirt - and he had a few - Marko has no doubt that the Second Division play-off final second leg at Peterhead in 2006 takes some beating.

He said: "It was such a rollercoaster of a game in the second leg up there and, of course, Billy Gibson's free-kick was deflected home for the equaliser in injury-time and we went on to win on penalties.

"I'll never forget the Thistle fans after full-time invading the pitch and the team up in the stand taking the bow and Dick Campbell in tears and addressing the fans - it was just tremendous.

"The whole emotion of it was just so special.

"It seemed like there was no chance we would do it as Peterhead had chance after chance in the second half and everything seemed to be going against us, but we did it."

Season 2005/2006, in which he scored 22 times in the amber, yellow and black was also packed full of special moments.

Roberts said: "There were the Scottish Cup fourth round ties with Inverness that season where I got two up the road to earn us the replay and then scored at Firhill before we beat them on penalties.

"Then we went to Hearts, who went on to win the Scottish Cup that season and gave them all the trouble they could handle. Really, that was a massive season and maybe the best of my career."

Perhaps that goal haul - the best since Mo Johnston in season 1982/83 - sums up Marko's importance to Thistle during his three-and-a-half-year spell at Firhill.

At a crucial time in the club's history, Roberts' maybe contributed more than any other to keep Thistle full-time.
