VAN DER SAR Solid

Big Dutch keeper had two things to deal with - and showed his class on both occasions saving excellent shots from McGeady and Caldwell inside the first 20 minutes. May be getting on but one of the finest the game has produced.

NEVILLE Motivated

Veteran skipper may well be getting to the end of his days at Old Trafford with the likes of Wes Brown and Rafael wanting the right-back berth. Got forward well to support Ronaldo.

EVANS Classy

The big lad from Northern Ireland is highly rated by Sir Alex and it's easy to see why. Powerful in the air and on the deck, he mopped up most signs of danger.

VIDIC Untroubled

Didn't have Rio Ferdinand as his partner because of late injury, but struck up good under-standing with Evans and had a fairly easy night.

O'SHEA Versatile

You can put the Irishman anywhere and get a steady display. Not exactly an attacking full-back, but so comfortable and enjoyed a nice couple of tussles with his countryman McGeady.

NANI Over-elaborate

Clearly bags of skill but at times a bit fancy. Great pace and good at cutting inside to cause problems, but final ball not always the best.

ANDERSON Grafter

Does the spadework in the United engine room. Kept it simple and seemed to be right up for the physical stuff.

FLETCHER Busy

Occupied the central role and was involved in a lot of United attacks. Blew golden moment to get a dream goal against team from his homeland when he skied a sitter before the break.

RONALDO Okay

Portuguese star was a constant menace even if, like Nani, he started to go for the Hollywood efforts at times. Tried to showboat a bit, but still a great player to watch.

ROONEY Superb

What can you say? Unbelievable shift, popped up all over the pitch, and just a world-class talent before he even hits 23 this Friday. Assistant's flag cost him.

BERBATOV Clinical

The Bulgarian has a languid style, but certainly knows where the goal is - even if he was given a massive helping hand by both assistants for his double. Will score plenty in this United side.

BROWN Steady

Like O'Shea, can play anywhere across the back and came on for last half hour.

TEVEZ Hungry

Such a bustling, pacey forward. Was desperate for a goal but couldn't find a finish.

PARK Came on at a stage when the game was dead.

MANAGER Content

Sir Alex wanted a performance against Celtic - and got it. His team were professional and, although Celtic held out for first half hour and had a few pops at goal, Ferguson was left a happy man.
