ALLY McCOIST has warned Rangers that fear must act as their spur when they face SFL minnows Forfar Athletic at Station Park in tomorrow night's rescheduled Homecoming Scottish Cup fifth-round tie.

Gers have been the victim of Scottish Cup shocks, with the defeat at Berwick in 1967 and the late eighties humilation at the hands of Hamilton at Ibrox perhaps the most famous.

And McCoist says that a disastrous defeat at the hands of Dick Campbell's side would live with the current Gers team for the rest of their careers.

The Rangers assistant warned: "This is what playing for Rangers is all about. When you go to a place like Forfar in the Scottish Cup you are a scalp waiting to be taken.

"The players must realise that every one of the Forfar lads will be well up for it and their attitude must be spot-on.

"Fear of losing should be the spur for them because if they are beaten at Station Park it is a defeat that will live with them forever.

"But I expect the lads to treat this game just as they would an Old Firm match.

"Rangers are the Scottish Cup holders and proud to be so and we want to successfully defend our trophy.

"We are now approaching the business end of the season and I can sense an excitement and an edge to the players and whoever plays at Forfar tomorrow night I expect them to demonstrate that."
