ARGENTINA and Spurs legend Ossie Ardiles today appealed to Caley Thistle chiefs to hand him the opportunity to keep the Inverness club up in the SPL.

Former World Cup winner Ardiles has emerged as a shock contender to replace Craig Brewster as manager at the struggling Highland club.

And Ossie, who has spent spells in charge at Newcastle, West Brom and Spurs, has revealed he is keen to move to Scotland.

The 56-year-old said: "I'm certain that I could succeed in keeping them up. I am very excited by the possibility of working there.

"The No.1 priority for them is survival and that won't be easy, but there is time to sort out the problems. I've been told that there is an interest and that, initially, it may only be an appointment until the end of the season.

"But if they want me and if I succeed then I'd like to commit myself to them for a lot longer."

However, Ardiles, who lifted the World Cup in his homeland in 1978, faces competition from former Caley Thistle bosses John Robertson and Charlie Christie, ex-player Barry Wilson and Scotland No.2 Terry Butcher.

Club supremo David Sutherland said: "Interest in the post is being invited."

Meanwhile, Brewster, who was axed after Caley Thistle went on a seven game losing run, is considering a sensational playing comeback at the grand old age of 42.

He admitted: "I've always kept myself fit so I see no reason why I can't look out those boots again. I feel in good shape. I've continued to train on a regular basis. I believe I could still do a job for someone." St Mirren supporters will be able to visit the Paisley club's new stadium at Ferguslie Park for the first time at an open training session on Monday. Norwich today named Bryan Gunn as their new manager until the end of the season.
