LEGENDARY Ranger Ian McColl was today paid a glowing tribute by Ibrox chief executive Martin Bain after he passed away aged 81 following a short illness.

Bain said: "Ian was a magnificent player for Rangers and, of course, a key member of the famous Iron Curtain defence. The club sends its condolences to Ian's family."

Ian is survived by his wife Jessie, son Ian and daughter Aileen.

Meanwhile, Hearts boss Czaba Laszlo could be in bother with the SFA after he lost the plot following referee Steve Conroy's decision to over turn an earlier penalty award for the Jambos in their 1-1 draw with Aberdeen.

Following Conroy's 84th-minute decision to over rule his initial spot-kick award Laszlo shoved the fourth official John McKendrick as he charged onto the pitch to try and confront Conroy and then had a bust-up with Dons coach Sandy Clark. With cops set to intervene Laszlo was the summoned to the referee's room along with Hearts director Campbell Ogilvie and is facing a savaging by the SFA.

Elsewhere, managerless Dundee have had their bid to line up Airdrie United boss Kenny Black knocked back by Diamonds chairman Jim Ballantyne. However the Dens outfit have also approached other clubs for permission to speak to their managers. Queen of the South gaffer Gordon Chisholm, Brechin boss Michael O'Neill, former Scotland Under-21 manager Rainer Bonhof and a dream team of Craig Brown and Billy Davies are all thought to be in the frame.
