YES

Says ALISON McCONNELL

Given the riveting nature of previous title successes that both halves of the Old Firm have enjoyed in recent seasons, it seems absurd for anyone to claim that a title race could be over by January.

But the difference is this is a Celtic side experienced in the art of winning titles. Gordon Strachan's side are currently enjoying their most consistent domestic spell since he arrived at the club - that underlines how dominant the Parkhead side have been in recent years.

Psychologically, a win later this month would heap further pressure on a Rangers side whose form away from home - ironically with the exception of their visit to Celtic Park - isn't that of title contenders.

Assuming Celtic and Rangers pick up max points between now and the end of December, a Hoops win would open up a ten-point gap and it would be impossible to imagine Celtic letting that slip - and Rangers clawing it back.

NO

Celtic will go into the match at Ibrox on December 27 seven points clear of Rangers, provided neither side has any negative results between now and then.

But after last season's dramatic finish, no one at Parkhead needs any reminding how things can change in a very short space of time.

Even a Celtic win in that game and a 10-point advantage would not be conclusive. The titles which have been lost by Celtic this century both looked to be in their hands much nearer the finishing line than the turn of the year.

So, while it would be a significant step towards four in a row if they can win at Ibrox, and it would heap even more pressure on Rangers, no one at Celtic would consider it job done.

More important to Celtic would be to avenge the 4-2 defeat at Parkhead earlier in the season, since when they have gone from strength to strength with 14 victories in domestic competition.
