BASINGSTOKE Labour Club remain top of Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division Two after beating Preston Candover 5-2.

Cameron George scored four goals, but it was Matt Kelly who opened the scoring for the table toppers.

Kyle Buckland levelled for Candover, but George scored twice to make it 3-1 at the break and completed his hat-trick early in the second half.

Buckland reduced the deficit with his second and Labour survived some sticky moments before George got his fourth.

Basingstoke Athletic kept up the pressure on the leaders with a 3-0 win over Overton United B.

Roman Vanik converted Dave Trevelion’s pass to give Athletic the lead at half-time, but Overton were handed a golden chance to level when they were awarded a penalty early in the second half. However, Darren White not only hit the crossbar from the spot, he did the same thing from the rebound.

Athletic made them pay four minutes later, Michael Borbely netting after playing a one-two with Ryan Evans, while Trevelion’s low shot completed the scoring late on.

A tremendous first-half performance saw Winklebury Wizards cruise to a 5-0 win over basement side Sherborne St John Reserves.

Goals from Josh Dickens, Robson Peiripa, Ben Clarke, Ryan Watts and Matt Lowe had them five up at the break.

Herriard goalkeeper James Sallows made a fine save to prevent Adam Francis giving Basingstoke United the lead from the penalty spot in the first half of their game, which looked set to end goalless.

However, Matthew Cook volleyed home from 20 yards with five minutes left .

AFC Berg’s good form continued with a 5-0 win against AFC Aldermaston A.

Richard McCoubrie crossed for Alan Allayne to open the scoring, Matt Goodman found the net twice and further goals from Allayne and sub Nick Tucker completed the rout.
