OVERTON United beat local rivals AFC Aldermaston 2-1 to secure their place in the semi-finals of the Basingstoke Senior Cup.

The teams know each other well, having met in the Hampshire Premier League numerous times, but Wednesday’s cup tie was their first meeting this season as Aldermaston switched to the Thames Valley Premier League last year.

Overton had the better of the first half, but they were unable to find a goal until just before the hour mark, when Ollie Bode took advantage of a poor clearance to fire the visitors ahead.

After failing to make the most of several chances to double their lead, Overton finally made it 2-0 with 15 minutes left, Danny Houseman heading home Luke Nellor’s cross.

Liam Tackley pulled a goal back for Aldermaston soon after, but the visitors held on to secure their place in the last four.

Overton’s trip to QK Southampton in the Hampshire Premier League was postponed on Saturday, but they are due to return to action with a home game against mid-table Colden Common this weekend.
