THERE will not be a Basingstoke winner of any of the Hampshire cups due to the two remaining Basingstoke and District Saturday League teams crashing out of county competitions at the weekend.

Sherborne St John led Andover League outfit Kingsclere 3-1 at half-time of their Hampshire A Cup tie, but were overcome in the second period, losing 4-3.

Striker Matt Livingston was forced to go in goal for a below-strength Sherborne, but it didn’t seem to matter early on. Rory Hatherall opened the scoring after 15 minutes and while Kingsclere drew level, goals from Alex Izzo and Ash Pirie seemed to have Sherborne in control at half-time.

Izzo had the chance to put the game to bed after the break, but he failed to take the chance. Sherborne were reduced to 10 men due to injury and Kingsclere took charge, scoring three times to win the game, with the decisive goal coming five minutes from time.

Basingstoke Athletic also lost 4-3, going out of the Hampshire Junior B Cup at the hands of Hartley Wintney A.

The tie was switched to Hartley, having been postponed twice at Athletic’s home ground, and the visitors found themselves two goals down at the break. Hartley soon extended their advantage to 4-0, but Athletic gave them a fright, with goals from Nathan Read, Matt Button and Matt Stillwell reducing the final deficit to a single goal.
