BASINGSTOKE Royals took advantage of Hook being in cup action to take over at the summit of the Basingstoke and District Saturday League.

They led 4-0 after just 25 minutes in their game against Tadley Calleva A, with Steve Horton, Nick Willcock, Matt Dean and Wilcock’s second of the game putting them in control.

Dean’s second made it five on the hour but there was some consolation for Tadley, who pulled a goal back through Stephen Burgess to make it 5-1 before the final whistle.

Basingstoke Athletic’s hopes of winning promotion from Division Two suffered a setback as they lost 3-1 at Overton United B.

Athletic took an early lead from Nathan Read, but Matt Wilson’s free-kick had Overton level after 25 minutes. Dan Houseman set up Darren White and then Wilson as the hosts clinched all three points after the break.

Bounty United moved to the top of the table with a 4-0 home win over Herriard Sports. Mitchell Stokes opened the scoring on 27 minutes, Matt Love scored either side of half-time and Jordan Willis completed the scoring for the hosts.

Basingstoke Labour Club are up to third after a 3-1 win at Sherborne St John Reserves. Matt Kelly had the visitors ahead and while Alex Izzo levelled for Sherborne after the break, further goals from Cameron George and Kelly’s second of the game gave Labour the points.
