A TRIO of Basingstoke and District Saturday League sides progressed to the quarter-finals of the North Hants May Cup at the weekend.

Basingstoke United beat Andover League outfit Kingsclere Reserves 2-1 at the Fieldgate Centre. Nathan Cheshire put Kingsclere ahead with 20 minutes to go, but Ash Pearce and Daniel Southgate struck in the final five minutes to send United through.

TwentyTen got off to a fast start in their all-Basingstoke tie against DJS Telecoms, with goals from Joe Hill, Joe Osborne and Jake Tanner putting them three ahead after just 15 minutes.

Craig Roshier and Ashley Elward scored either side of half-time to get DJS back into the game and while Hill’s second gave TwentyTen a cushion, Lee Neal soon made it 4-3.

However, late goals from Christian Cox and Alex Gonzato saw TwentyTen home to win the tie 6-3.

Hampshire Irons will host Herriard Sports in the last eight after beating Hampshire Irons 2-0. James Arnold put them ahead on 20 minutes and Alex Brown got the second on the half-hour mark.

AFC Aldermaston A crashed out of the North Hants Junior Cup, going down 7-1 to Sutton Scotney.

Tom Cooper gave Aldermaston an early lead, but Craig Porter’s own-goal levelled the game and Sutton Scotney led 2-1 at the break. Things really went wrong for Aldermaston after the break, when Paul Smith was sent off less than two minutes after coming on.

Rising Sun DC progressed to the semi-finals of the Basingstoke A Cup with a 22-1 victory over Welly Old Boys. Ben Nicholls and Lee Chambers scored five each, Lorne Howard banged in four, Ben Vine hit a hat-trick and Michael Thomas and Gordon Birch both scored twice, with an own-goal completing the rout. Alex Hill got Welly’s lone reply.
