AFC Aldermaston were unable to get the better of Thames Valley Premier League leaders Reading YMCA on Saturday, going down to a 2-1 defeat.
A poor clearance from Aldermaston goalkeeper Matt Desay gave Reading the chance to go ahead early on and while Kai Parton-Edey forced a good save from the visiting goalkeeper, there was no further scoring before half-time.
The lead was doubled from the penalty spot early in the second half following a foul by Alex Silvester, but the hosts had the chance to get back into the game when Michael Porter was fouled in the box.
However, Parton-Edey hit the crossbar from the penalty spot, while Carmel Tonna also missed a good chance. Lee Wheeler pulled a goal back with an excellent shot from the corner of the area with 10 minutes to go, but the hosts could not find an equaliser.
Next up for Aldermaston, who sit eighth in the table, is a trip to Taplow United, who are just below them, on Saturday.
