No-two Saints fans are exactly alike, to corrupt a well worn cliche, but some are more alike than others.

YouGov, the firm best known for compiling opinion polls ahead of elections, have today released a sample of the data they have which profiles people with certain interests.

Among those profiled are Southampton fans - and the results may well surprise you.

According to YouGov, the average Southampton fan is a man over the age of sixty who is most likely to work in travel, engineering, mining or the emergency services.

Unsurprisingly, they are most likely to live on the south coast of England, with the West Country the second most probable location.

With more than £1,000 month to spend after thy've paid off all their bills, the average Saints fan is supposedly quite well off.

Spare Ribs are the favourite food and bird watching is apparently the most popular hobby, while cats are the pet of choice.

Saints fans don't mind paying a little extra for quality - which will be good news for the club if the team continue to do well by the time next season's ticket prices are announced - although comfort is chosen over style when it comes to clothing.

Supporting Southampton means Audrey Hepburn is more likely to be your favourite celebrity, The Moody Blues your preferred band and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest your film of choice.

Obviously, your most visited website is dailyecho.co.uk, Radio Two DJ Simon Mayo's among the accounts you follow on Twitter, and Sonic the Hedgehog one of the games you while away the hours on using your smartphone.

Finally, when it comes to media, Southampton fans spend between 11 and 15 hours online every week and and as many 30 hours watching TV - and the most popular show is the antiques challenge Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is - perhaps the BBC should start putting Saints on nearer the top of the show if they want Match of the Day to increase in popularity among the St Mary's faithful.

Fans of rival club Portsmouth are far more right wing in their political beliefs than their Sotonian counterparts, with less disposable income.

However, they also enjoy reading the Daily Echo website - presumably to see how Hampshire's Premier League team are doing.

YouGov claim the reports the data is merely 'the tip of the iceberg' with what they have available.

There are also two reports into Daily Echo readers, which can be found here and here as well as a report which suggests eight of the 10 favourite foods from people who are fans of Matt Le Tissier, are types of curry.

The full, public report on Saints fans can be seen on the YouGov website, as can the Pompey report.

What do you think of the findings?
