THE Sky television cameras returned to The Soccer AM Stadium last week, with presenter Max Rushden on trial at Basingstoke Town.

The Soccer AM star took part in training as he aimed to impress manager Jason Bristow in a feature due to be aired on Saturday.

Simon Hood, marketing director at Basingstoke Town, said: “It was a good night. The lads enjoyed it and we all had a good laugh.

“Jason and Michael Gilkes are going to assess Max’s performance, but he did get involved to be fair.

“Jason said that he needs to improve his fitness, but he has got a good touch and did some nice things on the ball.”

Rushden’s visit to Basingstoke is the latest feature to involve the club, who agreed to rename their ground The Soccer AM Stadium in return for some publicity on the show.

Hood added: “A Basingstoke Town shirt is in the background, behind the guests, every week, which helps with branding, while Helen Chamberlain and Max are looking out for our results and wishing us luck.

“We have just secured a high definition quality camera, which should allow us to put highlights of games online and also send more footage to Soccer AM.

“We have been pleased with the crowds coming down to The Soccer AM Stadium and the new away shirt has been a real success, selling better than any other Town shirt.”

The Town squad and Rushden also took part in the regular Crossbar Challenge feature, which sees players attempt to hit the crossbar from the halfway line. Find out if anyone managed to succeed when the footage is shown on Soccer AM later in the season.
