VIDEO REACTION

5:01pm

Very disappointing. That game should have been over and done with well before the hosts got back into it, but Town were punished for failing to take their chances.

Reaction to follow.

4:56pm

Farnborough 2-1 Basingstoke Town

4:56pm

90+2 - Close to a third for the hosts as Page finds the side-netting after being played in.

4:53pm

90+1 - Farnborough 2-1 Basingstoke Town - Phil Page

Oh dear. That's a poor goal from a defensive point of view as PHIL PAGE is allowed to waltz past a couple of challenges in the area, leaving Ray on the floor, before firing past Moore from an acute angle.

4:49pm

88 - Farnborough 1-1 Basingstoke Town - Dan Bennett

Town are victims of their own endevour. Bird races up the pitch to support an attack but Farnborough win the ball and attack his area of the pitch.

Gasson covers but Town never really recover defensively and Page has time to take a shot. Moore saves but cannot keep hold of the loose ball and DAN BENNETT is on hand to score on the rebound.

4:47pm

86 - Another opportunity for Macklin, but he puts his angled shot straight at Grainger in the home goal.

4:46pm

85 - The game has gone a bit scrappy, but Bignall's flick has Macklin in. The offside flag is up, but that must have been tight.

4:44pm

82 - Bit of pressure for Town, with Bignall firing across goal and Flood failing to get hold of a volley from Williams' clever pass.

4:43pm

81 - Dan Bennett - Farnborough

Bennett goes into the book for a pull on Flood as he looked to break.

4:41pm

80 - Almost a second for Town. Bignall does well and Simon Dunn feeds Macklin, who is clean through. Sadly, a heavy touch sees the ball run through to Grainger.

4:39pm

78 - Bennett has a shot from outside the area but it's deflected wide. The corner goes out for a goal-kick.

4:39pm

77 - Basingstoke Town - Nicholas Bignall and Lloyd Macklin on for Liam Enver-Marum and Louie Soares

4:37pm

76 - Farnborough - Joe Taylor on for Josh Webb

4:37pm

76 - Okenabarhie has a shot from the edge of the area, but it's deflected wide for a corner.

4:35pm

72 - Jenkinson justifies that substitution almost straight away, making a fantastic block-tackle to deny Page what looked like a certain goal.

4:31pm

70 - Basingstoke Town - Andrew Jenkinson on for Shaun McAuley

4:30pm

68 - Fantastic passage of play from the hosts. Great touch from Page, who released Okenabarhie. He played in Ball, who produced an excellent turn to leave him with just Moore to beat.

His low shot looked destined for the corner of the net, but Moore got down to make a fantastic save.

4:26pm

It's actually a 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation for the hosts, which seems to have given Town the upper hand.

4:25pm

63 - Inches away for Town as Enver-Marum breaks the offside trap. He has time to settle himself before shooting, but Grainger gets a touch, diverting the ball against the crossbar and over.

4:24pm

62 - Williams almost finds Soares with a cross before McAuley fires wide from the edge of the area.

4:23pm

60 - Farnborough - Fejiri Okenabarhie on for Aaraon Tumwa

A change of shape to 4-4-2 for the hosts.

4:22pm

Having survived that early onslaught, Town seem in control. Williams has taken over at the base of the diamond and they look more solid. A hell of a player is Williams.

4:20pm

58 - Inches away from a second goal as Enver-Marum meets McAuley's cross. He header back across goal looks set to nestle in the net until Rodgers gets back to make a fantastic goal-line clearance.

4:16pm

55 - Better from Town as a good move leads to Soares just being beaten to a Bird cross. McAuley and Flood have follow-up efforts, with the latter's deflected out for a corner, which goes straight into the arms of Grainger.

4:14pm

52 - Smart's turn to make a mistake, giving the ball away on halfway. Page makes ground down the Farnborough left and his low centre is just about dealt with by Bird and Gasson.

"Keep the ball!" comes the cry from Bristow on the bench. Town are on the back foot here.

4:12pm

50 - Soares cuts in from the right and lets fly with his left foot. Miles wide and there were options in the middle.

4:10pm

48 - Poor from David Ray, who tries one trick too many in a bad area and is robbed by Dan Bennett. He makes ground into the area before squaring for Page, but his shot is deflected over the crossbar.

4:06pm

Farnborough get the second half under way. The rain has eased a little. I think we should make it through the game now.

4:05pm

Here come the hosts. Obviously had plenty to talk about during the break.

4:04pm

Well, Town are out. Farnborough are making them wait in the rain!

4:00pm

The teams make their way back out for the second half.

3:53pm

3:52pm

A mixed half for Town. They started excellently and could have been a couple of goals up inside 10 minutes, but then allowed Farnborough into the match.

They regained control just before scoring and deserve their lead. The goal seemed to knock some of the stuffing out of Farnborough, but the first 10 minutes of the second half will be vital.

3:49pm

Farnborough 0-1 Basingstoke Town

3:49pm

45 - Farnborough - Adam Brice on for Darryl Siaw

Siaw was actually the man down, and he is unable to continue.

3:48pm

45 - Two corners cause problems, with Grainger looking uncomfortable under the high ball, but he manages to catch the ball and the hosts clear their lines.

3:47pm

44 - Moore has to come out of his area quickly to get to a loose ball. His clearance turns into a great through-ball for Flood, who wins a corner, which the hosts will have to defend without Rodgers, who has gone down injured.

3:45pm

43 - The corner finds Gasson at the back post, but his header is blocked. He's sure it should be a corner, but the officials award the hosts a goal-kick.

3:44pm

42 - Bird's strong run wins the first corner of the match for Town.

3:42pm

The rain has got heavier again. Town scoring makes the referee's decision an even tougher one if the pitch starts to suffer.

3:38pm

36 - Farnborough 0-1 Basingstoke Town - Manny Williams (pen)

That's a fine penalty from MANNY WILLIAMS. Charlie Grainger dived the right way but it was in the top right-hand corner of the goal.

3:37pm

34 - Town break and when Enver-Marum feeds Bird, he is brought down by a sliding Ball. Easy decision for the referee to point to the spot.

3:36pm

33 - That's really good play from Farnborough, passing the ball patiently to put Ball into a good position, only for his cross to disappear into the stand behind the Town goal.

3:33pm

30 - Bird wins a free-kick and gets some lip from a Farnborough fan in the main stand. He responds with a cheeky wink. Good fun.

3:31pm

29 - That's close again for Town. A flowing move results in Tom Bird's cross finding Flood at the back post, but his volley flies across goal and inches wide.

3:30pm

27 - Soares makes ground before squaring for Enver-Marum. He has time to take a touch before shooting from the edge of the area, but fails to test the goalkeeper, firing wide.

3:28pm

26 - Manny Williams catches Courtney Fearn slightly late and the Farnborough man screams in pain. Doesn't need any treatment though.

3:25pm

23 - Page makes ground for Farnborough before playing Ball. He makes space for a shot, which clips the top of the crossbar on its way over.

Town certainly are not having things all their own way any more.

3:24pm

22 - Good break from Nathan Smart, but the final ball is poor and easily cut out.

3:22pm

20 - Chris Flood crosses and Enver-Marum should score, but the ball flicks off the top of his head and goes wide. Fortunately for him, the offside flag is up.

3:20pm

18 - Soares takes the kick himself and goes for power, but that's well over.

3:19pm

17 - Soares is brought down inches outside the area. A dangerous free-kick from the left-hand angle of the box.

3:18pm

15 - The rain seems to have almost stopped now, but Farnborough are getting a foothold.

Another cross from the left almost finds a stretching Paul Rodgers at the far post. He is the right wing-back and if he gets forward like that, Town will need to work out who covers him.

3:16pm

Looks like Farnborough are playing 3-5-2, which means that the midfield is very congested. Will be interesting to see how Town's system deals with this.

3:14pm

11 - Farnborough create their first real chance as Gasson gets caught under a deep cross from the left. He just does enough to put Page off, with the ball coming off his back and falling into the arms of Moore.

3:11pm

8 - Another opening for the visitors as Enver-Marum controls a pass and fires a volley over the crossbar. A far more difficult chance.

3:10pm

7 - The ball breaks to Liam Enver-Marum on the edge of the area, but his volleyed effort flies wide. Another decent chance.

3:09pm

6 - That's a nice Town move, which ends with Soares heading McAuley's cross from the right wide. He should have got that on target. He was unmarked.

A bright start from Town. Really good tempo.

3:07pm

The Town fans behind the goal are in good voice early on, and there seems to be quite a few of them. Encouraging.

3:05pm

Looks like Simon Dunn is being asked to sit in front of the back four in Town's midfield diamond this afternoon, with Soares, Shaun McAuley and Manny Williams interchanging at will in front of him.

3:04pm

2 - Phil Page makes a run into the Town area, but the visitors deal with the danger.

3:03pm

Town get the game under way. The are shooting down the slope, defending the goal at the large Prospect Road End of the ground in the first half.

3:02pm

A minute's silence in memory of former Farnborough player Adie Hayes and we are ready to get started.

3:00pm

The players are out and we are almost ready for kick-off.

2:55pm

An area just in front of the tunnel is getting more attention from the Farnborough forkers. Obviously an area of concern, but it doesn't look too bad.

The rain continues to come down, but it's nowhere near as hard as it was 45 minutes ago.

2:50pm

Another interesting note from the team-sheet. I expected Ray to be captain when he got back into the side, but Jay Gasson has kept the armband, so he would appear to be Wes Daly's replacement as skipper.

2:49pm

So, on paper, this is a game Town should win. However, as we all know, football is played on grass, and the conditions could make things even more interesting.

2:48pm

The teams have gone into the dry of the changing rooms to make their final preparations.

2:45pm

Going into today's game, Basingstoke sit second in the table, having picked up nine points from their first four games.

They have won three in a row, scoring nine goals and conceding none. Really impressive.

Farnborough have made a slower start. They lost their first three games, before winning at Wealdstone on Saturday. They are 18th in the table.

2:42pm

With Farnborough wearing blue and yellow, it's a first outing for Town's new all-white away strip. It's a design chosen via social media over the summer and it's a really nice kit.

Not sure I'd want to be washing it after this afternoon's game, mind!

2:40pm

Rather fittingly, the stadium PA is playing Kiss The Rain.

2:38pm

2:37pm

2:34pm

The weather's still pretty poor, but the rain has eased slightly. Probably a good thing as a bloke is out forking some problem areas. Keep your fingers crossed!

2:32pm

Just noticed a couple more things about the Town side.

Stuart Moore didn't start the first two wins between the sticks, but he returned against Hayes and keeps his place.

The other change is on the bench. Nicholas Bignall is back in contention, so there's no room among the substitutes for Julian Owusu.

2:31pm

TEAMS

Farnborough: Grainger, Rodgers, Tumwa, Fearn, Siaw, Ferrell, Webb, Ball, Page, Bennett, Treacher. Subs: Taylor, Pearse, Brice, McAvoy, Okenabarhie.

Basingstoke Town: Moore, Smart, Bird, Soares, Gasson, Ray, Dunn, McAuley, Enver-Marum, Flood, Williams. Subs: Rice, Jenkinson, Macklin, Bignall, Argent.

2:28pm

TEAM NEWS

Basingstoke are looking to record their fourth successive win, but they have made two changes to the side that started the three previous wins.

Robbie Rice was forced off in the early stages against Hayes and Yeading United on Saturday and he is only on the bench, with David Ray replacing him in the centre of defence.

The other change comes in midfield, with Louie Soares coming in for Andrew Jenkinson, who drops to the bench. That's an attack-minded midfield four. Will be interesting to see how they line up.

Not really any recognisable names in the Farnborough team, but Matt Ball, who scored both of the goals as they beat Wealdstone to claim their first win of the season on Saturday, is in the side.

2:23pm

VIEW FROM THE PRESS BOX

Basingstoke Gazette:

Not sure this really puts over how wet it is, but you can see that the pitch is in decent shape.

2:14pm

The first thing to talk about is obviously the weather. It's been raining all day and the downpour has got heavier in the last hour or so.

As things stand though, the match doesn't seem to be in much danger of being called off. In fact, the pitch is holding up remarkably well, it's the stands that are more waterlogged!

2:12pm

Good afternoon and welcome to live text commentary from a soggy Paddy Power Park, where Basingstoke Town are the visitors to local rivals Farnborough in the Vanarama Conference South.

Sam Argent wasn't on the bench today he was in the stands? was he on the official team sheet?

He was. If that was the case, I can only assume Argent picked up a knock in the warm-up and was replaced by Julian Owusu among the subs.
