Ronald Koeman gives nothing away on Saints' interest in Tottenham winger Andros Townsend

Saints boss Ronald Koeman was keeping quiet today over a possible deal for Spurs winger Andros Townsend.

The 23-year-old is a target for the club, who have already had one bid, believed to have been worth £10m, knocked back.

Saints are understood to still be interested in signing the winger, but Koeman gave nothing away on the matter.

“I cannot say anything about that,” he said.

When asked if it remained a possibility, the Saints boss replied: “Everything is possible.”

As reported in today’s Daily Echo, Saints will not consider any attempts from Spurs to turn a potential deal for Townsend into any sort of a swap for Morgan Schneiderlin.

Koeman again reaffirmed that the midfielder would not be going anywhere this summer.

“For us, it’s away, the rumours about him, because he played a fantastic match against Liverpool and how he acts is fantastic, and he has to show his qualities, but he did last Sunday and we are happy to have him in the squad,” he said.

Koeman also brushed off talk about the possibility of a bigger bid from Spurs, who have so far only offered £12m, saying an improved sum would make no difference.

“It doesn’t depend on the offer, because he will stay in Southampton,” he said.

Hasn't the echo reported enough in this situation! Rather have something about the WBA team which might be more interesting. On the Townsend situation I believe we should look elsewhere. He's no better than Puncheon and we let him go.

Not so. This quote from TinTin moves things from 'he is not for sale' to 'he is not for sale no matter what the offer is' and that's a big difference. Some of us felt that if a big enough offer came in the club would sell him but that's now been clarified.

So if Koeman says nothing the Echo reports on it, doesn't make much sence reporting on nothing. Surely it would be better to report on Saturdays game and the condition of the Saints players after last weeks game.

A big difference. Ron seems like a proud man, so the way i read it is, if morgan goes under any circumstances, he will walk. I think that's a fair reading of the situation. Since the day calum left i feel Ron has been looking to make strong public statements that are as much for the board as anyone else.

Was kind of enjoying spurs losing, but then the idea of them playing thursday sunday suddenly makes me happy to see them winning too. All adds up to mopo throwing the league cup again - probably their only realistic hope of winning anything.

I realise things are more expensive in London but £10m for Townsend and only £10m for Spider, maybe we should look at smaller towns and city's for our players, or even China and India, but we may need to sign multiples from there

Your are right! But would you really want Balotelli in the squad?? He's (Balotelli) totally overratet and a freaky journeyman! And the other thing is: To this day, no manager was capable to handel him. Give Shane his chance. RonKo has seen the potential in him. If you read some posts of WBA an Tigerfans they was very unlucky to lose him. So get behind him, give him the support that he needs and at the end of the day you will see we have another great player in our outfit!!
